Idaho girl joins lacrosse team

I thought this was a very interesting concept that addresses the many issues concerning women in sport. First of all it address' the issue that many women in sport still do not have equality when comparing them to male dominated sports. Sara Maras still needed lawyers and school board approval to play with the boys team when title IX says that teams should not discriminate based on gender. But it is great that she was given the same opportunity as men to play she just had to go through many channels to finally play with the boys. The most interesting aspect i found was that Sara Maras is a cheer leader but also loves the physical contact of lacrosse. I think this is a great stepping stone for all women in sport because this sport is fairly new and other sports like football and baseball have been around so long that it is very difficult to tear down the traditional views these sports have had like women playing with men in the same sport. I hope this will fuel the desires and give confidence that women can play equally alongside men in the world of sports.

A woman playing mens lacrosse is the most intense thing I have ever heard of. I agree that this concept absolutely fits with our course women in sport. It is unbelievable that there still is not a sense of equality on this subject given that title nine has been around for thirty plus years. It is embarrassing that we cannot as a society accept the fact that there are many female athletes that do have the ability to compete at men’s level competition. Sara Maras is a trooper and should have never had to use the services of a lawyer or get the approval of the school board in order to participate in men’s sport. I mean how far have we come with equality for this still to be occurring. I also agree that it is fantastic that she was eventually able to participate in this level of sport, but it should not have taken these measures to allow it. The fact that she is a cheerleader astonishes me because the two sports are so much the opposite. Hopefully this will spark some more female athletes to get out of their comfort zone and truly do what they desire, and stop hiding their true potential. Basically, if female athletes believe in themselves to the full extent then we are on our way to a new revolution of female athlete domination.
