The most talked about news story in the sports world is about Penn State. Unfortunately, the coverage on the University is under the spotlight due to events that occurred with a scandal that was hidden. Victims were sexually harmed by Sandusky and the University’s reputation changed for the worse. According to reports, in 2002 Sandusky was caught anally raping a ten year old boy by an assistant coach Mike McQueary. Eventually, word of this particular incident went to the athletic director and the president of the school. Sandusky was no longer allowed to bring any boys on campus and was considered a form of punishment; but he was not fired.
The social media has shaped the PSU scandal contained some themes that were indirectly and directly discussed among twitter users and other forms of media outlet with the white privilege and how the public is in shock that this scandal occurred with a prestige University. The scandal has three themes that are issues of power, media, and deviance intersect does tie in with the story will expand and the public will learn more about how PSU abused power and influence to keep the University a clean image. In addition, the theme of power is shown through media coverage with the fact that those that contain power withheld information in order to protect the school. Also, the witnesses were forced to keep the scandal hidden from the public. The term deviance is in the social media as well. For instance, the decision to withhold knowledge of any information and all illegal sexual activity is not the best choice. The media will continue to play out the story the public will find out that firing the Coach Paterno should have resulted to someone else getting fired that was involved in keeping information hidden.

The scandal is something that I would have never thought of happening to young boys by a coach. I personally would want the victims to know that they are not allowed and stay strong. The legacy of Joe Paterno will be ruined due to the scandal and according to the media college students are uproar about the situation. To conclude, this incident could have been brought up years ago and someone could have stopped Sandusky right away.
