Distance Learning Assignment (PSU Scandal)

Social media has become one of the most important and most efficient tools today. People can easily know what happen in the rest of the country. Social media is also a useful tool to make the world closer together. It also allows people get news faster. In the event of the PSU scandal, mass media transfer this information comprehensively and quickly. People are able to obtain information regards to this scandal through newspaper, radio, TV and even through the internet. Social media is so powerful that people make comments on this event, they discuss with each other and feedback their opinion through internet such as twitter and blog. They are free to share anything they want regarding to the PSU sandal. Social media does not shapes this sandal, instead, it provide an area or space for people to shape. Positive or negative discussions are posed and reviewed by people who get access to internet. Social media play an important role in this case.

In my opinion, the PSU scandal is all about money and power. I found that there are only few percents of people support Joe Pateno, who is the head coach for PSU in this case. Most of them give negative feedback. He use his power to cover up the truth of his illegal sexual activity. His immoral behavior is presented by the media. Power and media is intersecting. His behavior has great influences to the society. PSU make threat on student who saw or know the truth about this scandal. School wants to cover up this events, in order to ensure their reputation.

I think the truth that PSU uses its power to forced people in silent and try to cover up the scandal is immoral. Media play a extremely important role, because most of people give negative feedback regarding to this issue. People are forcing pressures on Joe Pateno and make the issue more transparent. I agree with the idea that to fire Joe Pateno after this news is exposed. By doing this, it can make more people feeling comfortable and ensuring no sexual abuse occurs anymore. Penn State should not use its power to cover up the scandal.
