Distance Learning Assignment 2

Nowadays, with the rapidly development and ubiquity of Social Media technology, people have many chances to access millions of resources from around the world even with the click of a mouse. We have all heard the despicable details of the Penn State scandal involving former Defensive Coordinator Jerry Sandusky involving the sexual abuse of over 20 children through his own charity. A lot of reliable information has come through social media from people directly on the State College Campus. Not only is information being relayed and an incredible rate, but reaction is twice as fast. Just by going on twitter you can see what each one of your friends thinks about the scandal and what should happen with Joe Paterno. People everywhere are expressing shock, anger, anguish and loss.

Social reaction has been shown to play an important role in reducing the degree of post traumatic response. Moreover, The victims of the Penn State scandal will benefit from knowing that everybody in society is trying to recognize the suffering, giving hand and voice to the outrage and find justice and change.

The Penn State scandal shows how powerful social media is in today’s days. All the details were distributed quickly and effectively by various sources. Social media’s potential is beginning to become fully unleashed; and I think the public expression of concern by so many people through social media may be healing for generations of victims of this scandal.
