Women in sports on TV

so i was watching the morning news for traffic and i guess before that there's the sports recap. So normally, there is no mention of any women in sport, but today was different. The news starts with two girls carrying a girl jogging. Apparently, there was s softball game of two rival teams that were playing against each other. I guess what happened was that a girl hit a home run but tore her acl running towards first base. The umpire stated that no one on her team could help her round the bases and in order to count the home run, she would have to cross herself. This was her first home run that she had hit, so in an act of kindness, the opposing team carried her around the bases. The opposing team lost 4-2. This is an inspirational story but i can't believe it took this much just to get a glimpse of women in sport on television. What makes it worse is that there are so many other stories that happen everyday in women in sport and they chose to air the one where women are showing compassion, making them look more feminine. Again the media is only showing a small part of women in sport.

Not only America but also many other countries, it's hard to see women in sport on media. For example, in Korea, I could see the men athletes any place in the sport channels and news, but it's hard to see women athletes on TV. Therefore, I didn't know in korea there is female soccer athletes until 2002. In 2002, World Cup was held in Korea and in Japan. At that time Korean soccer team entered into 4th. After the World Cup, when I turned on the TV, I could see the soccer athletes any place such in the sport channel, in the commercial, in the show programs, and in the drama as well. In addition, during the representing sports, there were a lot of reporting for male soccer plays. On the other hand, many people didn't know in Korea that female soccer team existed because they never had chance to watch their play.
The most media and sports channels reporters are male, so they represent what they are interesting in other words they represent male athletes more than female athletes. Therefore, our society has stereotype which people believe that male athletes are better player than female athletes. Also, on the advertising they describe male athletes with professional skills but female athletes with sexiness and femininity. If those things do not change, it is hard to change gender equity in sports media.
