Tag Body Shots

As soon as i saw this commercial I thought of the brand Axe that I believe is more popular and better known than Tag. Tag as well as Axe advertize the use of women as sex objects. Tag used the smell of this product as an attraction and excuse for women to throw themselves all over men like hungry animals. And the men were protrayed as victims of women abusing them at first and later in the commercial they puposely used this product to get women to be all over them. This commercial was aimed toward men but obviously we all know this product does not do as is shown. Women were protrayed as objects for men in this commercial.

In the commercial, “Tag Body Spray“, the producers were successful in attracting the male audience where women were drawn to men like magnets. I feel that the “Tag” commercial is extremely effective in targeting the male audience. I’ve witnessed men viewing this advertisement and their attention was completely upon what they were seeing as they were aware that the actors in the commercial were receiving an overwhelming amount of attention from attractive and responsive women who were drawn to the irresistible scent of Tag Body Spray. I do agree that the producers of commercials such as Tag, utilize women and portray them as mindless zombies in their efforts in drawing in consumers but since their viewing audience is receptive and buy the product, I think it is a great advertisement and should be continually used in drawing in consumers to purchase their product. Women have been used throughout history in selling various products. They are often used as sexual magnets when targeting the male audience and are often used in commercials, such as the Nike commercial where women want to purchase the product in order to be more like the character in the commercial who receives so much attention because they are wearing the product being advertised. Advertisers should use commercials that work and sell their products. If women sell products, then they should be in the commercials.

Axe body spray uses similar advertising techniques. The makers of Axe and Tag commercials are successfully using women as a good advertising tool for their product. Male products tend to use the attraction of the opposite sex for their commercials. Where as, many female products use self improving images for their commercials. I agree with Ora that advertisers should continue to use methods that sell their product.

This is a typical case of strengthening the hegemonic views of society. Through these type of advertisements women are continuing to be depicted as sexual objects for men. In order to have equality for women athletes this type of stuff needs to be stopped.
