The media has began an uproar with the PSU scandal, and it should have. It is necessary to show that nobody is above the law when they commit any crime, ESPECIALLY when it has to do with innocent children. The thing that is mind boggling is the amount of time it took for this scandal to come out. Head coaches knew about this and did not do anything about it. Why? Paterno could have avoided this entire news frenzy and being fired if he reported when he was told about it in the first place. Penn State will now and forever have a stigma that can not erased be erased. The other surprising thing was the initial shock many of the students and Penn State football fans had. Unfortunately, the shock had to do with the football game rather than that Penn State supported child abuse. How did they support it? By not reporting the wrong doing and "looking the other way". So why did they cover it up? Were they scared of losing their jobs? Were they scared of putting a bad name on Penn State? Did they think now that people know about Sandusky's perverted mind he would snap out of it? Yeah, look how that turned out. So many children's mental health could have been saved but the victims were being put on the back burner. It wasn't just the coaches of the team, the governor approved 3 million dollars towards Sandusky's charity even though investigations were being conducted. The good thing now is the main focus is turning to the victims of the scandal, remember those are the kids not the ones hiding the truth and got fired for it. PSU has been raising money for sexually abused children. The focus is to put those in jail for the crimes they committed and protect the children for the greater good.
