This story gives me a warm feeling in my chest. A female getting a shot to play in an actual high school football game is a monumental moment in history for women and for sports in general, specifically football. I, myself, play in a semi-pro women's tackle football league and for me it has been liberating. Being apart of something that is socially constructed to only be for me, is an accomplishment for me. I know we live in a world where we have our set rules and standards and how things are suppose to be. I am a person who likes to break the "norm" step outside the box and challenge everyones thoughts and expectations. What a coincidence that the girl kicker has the same last name as myself although not spelled exactly the same. I once believed that I could go out and play football with the guys from my high school. In fact, in elementary and junior high, I was one of the best players in street-tag and flag football. I knew it was impossible that I could even attempt to go out for the high school football team. So when reading this article about this brave girl, its no wonder it hits close to home for me. I truly hope that she is rewarding with being able to go out for the receiving position she'd like to play. And as fair as the coaches have been to let her be in the game, I hope they do the same for her going for receiver. Female Athletes Rock! Go Flinn!
