The topic of Fat Talk/Phobia we are going over is one that I find important to discuss. I feel that no matter what, there will always be a sense of having the perfect body, but its how we get there that is essential. So many ads out there influence our way of seeing what the perfect best looking body is through models, celebrities, athletes, etc., that people end up doing whatever it takes to look that certain way. We get caught up in the aesthetics part of the perfect body, and overlook the healthy part. Obesity is supposed to be the huge problem, an epidemic, but instead of eating healthy and exercising, people develop eating disorders or go on unnecessary diets. Sure they might get the skinny result they want, but their bodies are unhappy with the damages. And it doesn’t mean they’re as healthy as anyone else. If anything, they’ve become unhealthier by not giving their bodies enough nutrients and adding more stress and anxiety.
One video that most people have seen is the Dove Evolution commercial and how those women and men you see on billboards or magazines might not even be the real them. So why strive for that when it’s not the real thing? Everyone has different body structures so we should embrace what we have. And if we do want to change it in some way, it should be through healthy foods and exercise. The following link: http://www.nikeblog.com/2011/07/13/video-nike-women-photo-shoot/ showcases women in sport with different body types. These women athletes aren’t these stick figure models, they have meat and muscle to them. It shouldn’t really be so much about who is in the photo shoot, but more about how these women got to where they are.
