The article I recently read was called, "Women's Sports Coverage Still Lacking," by Josè Alfredo Flores (ASNE Reporter). What is being explained in this article is true that women sports are never reported on the front page of the sports section unless there is a scandal. And even if there is a scandal it does not receive a lot of press. Women are just as talented as men when it comes to sports and for those women not to be acknowledged for their hard work, discipline and commitment is a disgrace. Just because women are not all fancy when it comes to their skills and showing off to the audience what they can do for money, doesn't mean they are less talented. In fact, if women start to show off I would consider them to be sell outs because they would be conforming to what would make money instead for being true to themselves and being the best they can be, but that is just my opinion.

I understand that many people have become frustrated with the lack of front page coverage on women athletes, but does anyone think about why this does not occur? I doubt that the individuals in charge have an intentional agenda against women athletes. Many financial considerations must be made regarding what is placed on and inside such publications.
A business at the end of the day, magazine companies must consider what will cause their magazine to sell the most copies. While many people are obviously concerned with women sports, I do not think that number matches up against the number of people that will buy these magazines for cover stories featuring something else. The magazine companies probably think the same way, which is why many women athletes are not featured prominently.
Sports Illustrated Women went out of business after running for only about two years. If this market for women sports and athletes is there, where was it when Sports Illustrated Women needed a subscription base?
I agree that women athletes possess great talent. Before people complain that there is not enough coverage and focus on women athletes and sports, considerations on the financial side of things must be made. More individuals follow sports involving men. Women sports has yet to reach that same level of following. As a result, there is not as many individuals wanting to read and buy magazines to find out about such women. This then causes a lack of coverage and features for women athletes and women sports as a whole. The issue is not so simple that someone can just say that magazines and newspapers do not care or that they undervalue the abilities of women.
