In this blog I'm actually not going to talk about how amazing I think it is that Angela Ruggiero is a Female Olympic medalist for playing Ice Hockey.

I watched this video with one of my guy friends, and the first thing he said was "eww this girl is so manly". Two things that really caught my attention- and ticked me off- was the wording he used. Girl and Manly. I did a little bit of research on Ruggiero and she’s an average 29 years old woman. And what does Manly even mean? I showed my friend a video of Anna Kournikova and asked him how these to women are different from each other. And he said "seriously?" YEAH SERIOUSLY!!! They are both athletes playing different sports, they are both skilled in what they do, they are both blonde. What’s the difference right? And I bet my friends not the only person who things the same thing.

In class we talked about and invisible line that women can move only to a certain extent, until they are dikes, bitches and lesbians. I see the same thing happening with this video vs Kournikova's video. Kournikova is usually showing a lot more skin, playing a more "gentle" sport, she’s been in commercials and magazines in her bikini, etc. As opposed to Ruggiero who is wearing a big baggy shirt, not show any skin while she plays and hey skilled sport, ice hokey is known to be much more violent.

In todays society sex sells. We see it all over the media, what people consider catchy and sexy is printed all around us. Our eyes have become so used to this that we no longer notice it. The influence of the media leads to a whole other argument. This starts from a very young age, and follows us all the way until the day we die.
